Easy Tuna Pasta Bake

To give you some indication as to how easy this actually is, it’s basically macaroni cheese with added tuna. Or tuna and cheese on toast but without the toast. You get the idea. Another thing it represents is a cheap, easy way to use up a few store cupboard ingredients and we’re all for that!


Easy Tuna Pasta Bake

  • Ingredients

    400g Pasta (Penne or Fusilli)
    50g Unsalted Butter
    50g Plain Flour
    600ml Whole Milk
    300g Cheddar Cheese Grated
    1 Tin Tuna (185g)
    1tsp Mustard
    A Few Drops Tabasco Sauce
    3 Spring Onions Chopped
    1 Tin Sweetcorn (200g) Drained
    Black Pepper

How to Cook

1. Heat a large pan of salted water and cook your pasta according to packet instructions (generally between 10 and 12 minutes).

2. In a large saucepan, gently melt the butter and then add the flour. Whisk together over a low heat for a minute but be careful not to let it burn.

3. Pour in the milk gradually, whisking continuously until you have a thick white béchamel-style sauce.

4. Remove from the heat and whisk in half the grated cheddar then add the mustard, tuna, sweetcorn, spring onion, tabasco and salt and pepper to taste.

5. Stir through the pasta until all the pieces are covered then put in a baking dish. Top with the cheese and cook at 180C/Gas 4 until melted, golden and bubbling.

    I love tinned tuna in sandwiches, but I absolutely HATE tuna in anything warm. I made this dish for my husband and my Granddaughter who both thought it was fabulous.I followed the recipe to the letter, they liked it so much I don’t think I would have to alter it at all. If I make it for myself, I would replace the Tuna with chicken or bacon and mushrooms perhaps.
